It has been a year since Hitler invaded my country, France. Life here is awful. We don't get any freedom, though they say we are still "France," just under Nazi rule. I am so sick of these Nazis stomping over my people's rights. So I have decided to do something about it. I have officially joined the French Resistance. I hide my grandmother's printing machine in haystacks when I know there is a chance that the Nazis will find it. I also collect messages from around the countryside. Once, some Nazi soldiers were suspicious of me and asked what I was doing around the countryside. I told them that I was collecting food for my rabbits. They believed me. My mother writes for The Liberation, a newspaper for the resistance. I type the articles for her. We are using geurilla warfare tactics. I will fight these Nazis no matter if it costs me my life. Already many members have been captured, tortured, and killed. But I am not scared. I will protect my family, or what's left of it.
Viva la France!
Helene Delattre, Member of the French Resistance
